We are one

Collaboration project with photographer Tom Marshak

This project explores ways of combining the mediums they use without losing autonomy in the process, while focusing on the subject of men’s attempts to manipulate nature. Tom photographs Anna wearing transparent plastic masks with acrylic drawings, the white lines seam to float in the air, creating a surreal image, an illusion of a digital collage. At first glance the figure appears to be magically merging with the drawings, but the plastic sheets create a contrast with the organic elements, the bear skin, and drawings of flora and fauna. The figure is in a way trapped by this seemingly organic construction. The relations between the masks and the subject raise question on our perception of reality, and the dissociation of men from their human nature and surroundings. The autonomy of the mediums becomes irrelevant in the final outcome of the project, as an allegory to the fragile codependence of men and nature.
